Recognized staffords colours by the kennel club are red /fawn /white /black /blue or brindle or any of these colour with white/
black & tan and liver are not desirable
If you are looking for a stafford here are a few things to consider
red staffords very often have a black face mask,
in young red pups there is often a black strip along the back right through to the tail, this will often grow out as the pups grow, but you do see the odd red with a tail that has remained black.
When two red parents produce a litter the pups may be a lighter shade of red (fawn) due to colour dilution

Fawns can appear in a red litter/ or blue litter

White staffords as pups can look pure white but then black spots appear under the skin that show throught the coat as they mature.
A black nose and eye rims are desirable in a white .
The less black pigment seen in a white can have a down side as such dogs can be prone to deafness if you are concidering an all white stafford ask the breeder to have a hearing test done

Black staffords will have some brindle on them it is said even the blackest dog will have a few brindle hairs
When blacks are continually put together you will get a blue pup now and then
Some blacks are registered with the kennel club at a young age as black but some can be more of a dark brown as they grow

A white dog with an eye patch is classed as a pied

Blue staffords are the darkest form of blue when they come from a black parents
When two blues are put together the litter may be a lighter shade of blue than the parents
Levi our stud dog is from blue parents, he is a very dark shade of blue so this is not always the case but he does have black champions in his pedigree.
A fawn brindling can apear on a blue as a pup grows even if this is not seen by the breeder at the time of registering and selling the pups

Brindle staffords can be tiger brindle

This puppy is a fawn brindle

He was from a litter with 3 black & white 1 choc brown and 1fawn brindle
The dam was black and the sire was tri pied (a white dog with black and red patches)
Black brindle with varying amounts of brindle , and blue brindle

Brindle is not a fault CH valgo casanova at crossguns is a black brindle he is the current record holder with the most CC's in the show world
Liver Colour ? in the show ring it would be undesirable
black and tan staffords are said to be undesirable

It's all down to personal taste .
When we have a litter of stafford pup's for sale we would never advertise that the litter is show quality or has show potential, as this can not be seen at this young age, however we are aiming to produce dogs that are a credit to the breed, and find them owners who are a credit to them.
There are many different views in the show world on colour, head type, prefered breeding lines, the perfect height, the list is endless but one thing every body involved with staffords agrees is that their lives would not be the same with out one!
This is one of our pups at 6 weeks, and again at 18 months old he has a good family home his best friend is a 7 year old girl
we feel he has show potential ! In the best breeding lines some of the litter may be better examples than others until the dog matures it may be difficult to tell
